The plan was to close all stations between Liverpool and Manchester except St Helens Junction (retained as the railhead for St Helens as the main station in St Helens (Shaw St) was to be closed as well).
The station opened in 1905 on the existing line which had opened in 1878. It was rebuilt and much improved in 1958 before closing in 1964, [1] [2] as part of the Beeching Axe. The railway which passed through the site had closed completely within four years of the station's closure, and the track was removed soon afterwards.
