Langara College (snəw̓eyəɬ leləm̓ in Halkomelem) is a public degree-granting college in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada which serves more than 19,000 students annually. Langara College started in 1965 as part of Vancouver Community College and in 1970, it opened its West 49th Avenue campus.
The Vancouver College rowing team competes in the National Regatta in St. Catharines, Ontario, and has won gold in both Junior and Senior categories. The College has an amicable rivalry with St. George's School and competes in the annual Saints-College basketball series. The school is a popular shooting spot for television and film productions. Simon Fraser University opened in 1965. This same year saw the opening of the first college recommended by the MacDonald report; Vancouver City College. Vancouver City College was the first autonomous community college in BC, formed by amalgamating Vancouver Vocational Institute, Vancouver School of Art, and King Edward Continuing Education Centre.
