It is one of the largest Buddha statues in China and also in the world. The Grand Buddha at Ling Shan is a bronze Amitabha standing Buddha outdoor, weighing over 700 metric tons (690 long tons; 770 short tons). It was completed at the end of 1996. The monument is 88 meters (289 ft) in total height, including 9 m lotus pedestal. [1]
Taking into account the 25 metres (82 ft) pedestal/building atop which it is placed, the monument has a total height of 153 metres (502 ft). As of October 2008, the hill on which the statue stands was reshaped to form two further pedestals, the upper one being 15 m tall. The total height of the monument is now said to be 208 m (682 ft).
The stupa was built in 1957, with the support of the Beijing Municipal Government. The stupa is a multi-eaves style brick pagoda with 13 stories. It stands at a height of about 51-metre (167 ft), built on a 2.7-metre (8 ft 10 in) high stone foundation. The tooth relic of the Buddha is preserved in the stupa.
The Spring Temple Buddha of Lushan County, Henan, China, with a height of 126 meters, is the second tallest statue in the world (see list of tallest statues). The Daibutsu in the Tōdai-ji in Nara , Japan, is the largest bronze image of Vairocana in the world.
Weighing 3954 grams, the statue presents a more mobile size compared to the colossal Buddhas at Yungang and Longmen. The Buddha is seated in the lotus position, his right hand in the abhayamudra, and left hand resting on the robe, which maintains the older kasaya style.
