Assigned in December 1945 to Headquarters, Ninth Naval District, Great Lakes, Illinois, he continued to serve there until 1 April 1946, when he was released from active duty. He was honorably discharged from the Naval Reserve on 15 October 1954. Following his discharge, he returned to Chicago where he opened a tailor shop. He retired in 1969.
