The Detroit Medical Center (DMC) is a for-profit alliance of hospitals that encompasses over 2,000 licensed beds, 3,000 affiliated physicians and over 12,000 employees. Located in Midtown Detroit , the DMC is affiliated with medical schools from Wayne State University and Michigan State University .
Grace Hospital was established in 1888 and named after Grace McMillan Jarvis, daughter of founder Senator James McMillan. It was located at the corner of Willis and John R. adjacent to the current main campus of the Detroit Medical Center. Grace Hospital opened a training school for nurses in 1889.
On September 30, 2014, DMC announced that it would close the facility beginning October 3, 2014 with all work completed October 10, 2014. The Detroit News reported that 127 employees would be laid-off until DMC can reassign them to other facilities. [2] [3] As of summer 2017, the structure is on the real estate market. [4]

The James Clements Airport Administration Building was designed by local Bay City architect Joseph C. Goddeyne, and constructed by the Webber Construction Company in 1929–30. In 1951, Rehabilitation Institute of Metropolitan Detroit was founded at the Herman Kiefer Hospital in Detroit. This was also the site of the Metropolitan Detroit Polio Foundation, which merged with the Rehabilitation Institute in 1953. These two partners soon realized they needed a building of their own to house all their services.
