These parts are prefixed with 54 instead of 74 in the part number. [1] A short-lived 64 prefix on Texas Instruments parts indicated an industrial temperature range; this prefix had been dropped from the TI literature by 1973. Most recent 7400-series parts are fabricated in CMOS or BiCMOS technology rather than TTL.

The SN prefix indicates it was manufactured by Texas Instruments [1] The N suffix is a vendor-specific code indicating plastic DIP packaging. The second line of numbers (7645) is a date code; this chip was manufactured in the 45th week of 1976. [2] The 7400 series is a popular logic family of transistor–transistor logic (TTL) integrated ...

The Sylvania parts were used in the controls of the Phoenix missile. [3] TTL became popular with electronic systems designers after Texas Instruments introduced the 5400 series of ICs, with military temperature range, in 1964 and the later 7400 series, specified over a narrower range and with inexpensive plastic packages, in 1966. 5. 74181 - Wikipedia

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/74181

The 74181 is a 4-bit slice arithmetic logic unit (ALU), implemented as a 7400 series TTL integrated circuit. Introduced by Texas Instruments in February 1970, [1] it was the first complete ALU on a single chip. [2] It was used as the arithmetic/logic core in the CPUs of many historically significant minicomputers and other devices.

  6. Logic family - Wikipedia

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logic_family

In TTL logic, bipolar junction transistors (BJTs) perform the logic and amplifying functions. The first transistor–transistor logic family of integrated circuits was introduced by Sylvania as Sylvania Universal High–Level Logic (SUHL) in 1963. Texas Instruments introduced the 7400 series TTL family in 1964.

    1) The 74 prefix doesn't have anything to do with the year 1974, because in the "Further Reading" section there are 7400 series parts in the 1967 Texas Instruments catalog and 1971 book. 2) Texas Instruments SN7400 family is commercial (and industrial) temperature range parts, SN5400 family is similar parts in military temperature range parts ...

    4) In the description column, my preference is using common obvious terms and modern descriptions for the parts, instead of using the EXACT SAME title as listed on old Texas Instruments datasheets. The two might be the same, or slightly different wording that means the same thing, or slightly different to describe it better.
