"We're Gonna Go Fishin'" is a song written by Tex Atchison that was originally recorded by American country singer–songwriter Hank Locklin. In 1962, it was released as a single and became a major hit on the American country chart and in the United Kingdom. It would later be released on Locklin's 1963 album, The Ways of Life.
The LP's only single, "We're Gonna Go Fishin'," had been released in May 1962. [5] It spent a total of 11 weeks on the Billboard Hot Country and Western Sides chart before reaching number 14 in August 1962. [6] It was also Locklin's third charting single in the United Kingdom, where it peaked at number 18 around the same time. [7]

He continued having several more hits with "We're Gonna Go Fishin'," "Flyin' South" and 1965's "The Girls Get Prettier." [2] The latter hit prompted the recording and release of a studio album of the same name in 1966. The project was recorded mostly in January 1966 at the RCA Victor Studio in Nashville, Tennessee.
