The village of Eureka was platted in 1858 [7] along the route of the Pacific Railroad. By 1890, the village consisted of about 100 homes. As railroad workers cleared the way for the track, they saw level land with little to clear and declared "Eureka!" which is Greek for "I've found it." [6] Thus, Eureka was founded.
