The real cost of DIY painting is your time and effort, not the cost of the paint. $30 a gallon might not be much better then $22 a gallon but I would bet both are better then a no name $14 a gallon paint. Many store brands are as good and maybe better then national brands but we are not talking about trying out a few different canned veggies ...
Hi, I am painting the inside of my house and I have some old paint from Home depot. (Behr) The paint is old and dried out. There is a label on top of the can, with a drop of the paint on it. There are also some numbers, but I can't seem to match the numbers on any color spectrum. Does anyone know how home depot makes their color code?
You know how it is a couple of years after painting. Scuffs and dings add up and you just have to paint over them. Home Depot matched paint for me twice and both matches were perfect (quart containers). The third time was a bad match that wrecked my paint job (it was a tiny sample jar). I tried adding white, spreading the new paint wider, etc.
After trying various brands, I agreed with them. The paint store top of the line paints are execellent. The home depot or lowes paint does not even compare. It is comparable to thier bottom end stuff whch is pretty much junk. Aside form being hard to get a good finsih and needing more coats, it just does nto holds up as well.
If you haven't bought paint lately, be prepared for sticker shock. We paid $60/gallon for good quality Benjamin Moore interior paint, and even the cheaper Behr at Home Depot is $37/gallon. When we bought our first house in 1978 we got Standard Brands paint for about $3/gallon.

Yeah, as Harry said that can all be fixed. If you take a chip of the paint to a place like Home Depot or a paint store they should be able to match the paint pretty closely, as well as the texture if you show them that photo. Just get some spackle to fill in the hole, let it dry, and paint it. The door is just the door.

Nothing will happen if you install it backwards. The front side has a better quality paper that has a smoother finish, and provides a surface that aids on keeping the primer and paint as even as possible. The back side is more porous. Since you are using it on a closet and plan to prime it, go for it. It won't make a difference.
