Dr. Terry Todd began collecting books and magazines in the field of physical culture in the late 1950s. As a doctoral student at the University of Texas, he was encouraged in this effort by his weightlifting coach, Professor Roy J. McLean, who would eventually create the Stark Center's first endowment, which became known in the mid-1980s as the Todd-McLean Physical Culture Collection.
The school that ultimately became the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences was founded in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1979 by Stanley V. Paris as the Institute of Physical Therapy. Paris retired from USAHS in 2007. [4] In 1997, the school officially became "The University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences."
As of the end of 2022, 294 institutions offer physical therapy education programs and 396 institutions offer physical therapist assistant education programs in the United States.
