Robert Lockwood Jr., a.k.a. Robert Jr. Lockwood, (March 27, 1915 – November 21, 2006) [1] was an American Delta blues guitarist, [2] who recorded for Chess Records and other Chicago labels in the 1950s and 1960s. He was the only guitarist to have learned to play directly from Robert Johnson.

Leonard Samuel Chess (born Lejzor Szmuel Czyż; March 12, 1917 – October 16, 1969), was a Polish-American record company executive and the co-founder of Chess Records. He was influential in the development of the recording industry, and electric blues , Chicago blues , and rock and roll .

He moved to Paris in 1972 and toured and recorded in Europe as part of the promoter Jim Simpson's "American Blues Legends" tour, recording The Comeback for Simpson's Big Bear Records and an album for Ornament Records in 1977. [5] He also performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival. [2] He died in April 1985, after a long illness, in Paris.
