Illinois Institute of Technology Academic Campus or IIT Main Campus is one of five campuses of the Illinois Institute of Technology. It is located in the Douglas community area and has an official address of 3300 South Federal Street and is roughly bounded by 31st Street, State Street , 35th Street and the Dan Ryan Expressway .
When the school went co-ed in 1954, it began to de-emphasize its "technical" label, though it continued to offer courses like auto shop and drafting. [5] Between 1911 and 1969, the school shared its building with Crane College, the first junior college in Chicago. The college moved out in 1969 and is now known as Malcolm X College. [7]
After the WAIT callsign was dropped, [94] the IIT station eventually returned to its original call letters, WIIT, on February 23, 2001. [95] In September 2007 the university opened a nine-hole disc golf course that weaves around the academic buildings on Mies Campus and is the first disc golf course to appear within the Chicago city limits.

Koolhaas tracked movements of students across the lot, which led to diagonal passageways as the center's interior thoroughfares.
