It is a regional private television station that broadcasts in the region of Thessaly, Greece. It started broadcasting on 5 February 1990. TRT has studios in five cities (Volos, Larissa, Karditsa, Trikala and Athens). The station broadcasts continuously and its programmes are targeted at a broad audience of all ages.
Star Channel was launched on 4 December 1993 to compete with Mega, ANT1, Alpha TV and ERT Channels. It began broadcasting children's programs as well as foreign series. In 1994 – Star Channel began to exchange family/children's programs from Alpha, then known as Skai (Greek spelling of Sky) with Star's children's programming.
The station would be formerly managed by Achaia Channel S.A. Television, Radio, Production, Exploitation, Cassettes and Movies, which was established on December 18, 1992. [4]
The first broadcast of the channel was on 17 April 2019, via the news site In.gr, initially for the coverage of the presentation of Giannis Moralis, candidate for mayor of Piraeus. The first official broadcast was on 2 May, via its official site and on 23 May started broadcasting via satellite and IPTV on Nova and Cosmote TV.
After the construction of the OTE Tower in the Thessaloniki Fair area, OTE started a third state TV channel in the SECAM color format. The two initial state channels requested the closing and elimination of the new OTE channel, fearing that OTE would drive them to close, because of the superiority of the color picture, the telecommunications network and the technical superiority of OTE.
