Detroit Island is an island in Lake Michigan in the southern part of the town of Washington in Door County, Wisconsin, United States. The island has a land area of 2.578 km 2 (0.9955 sq mi, or 637.12 acres), [1] [2] out of which 27.6% is open to the public. [3] The northern end of the island borders the waters of Detroit Harbor.
The city is divided almost equally between Oakland County to the north and Wayne County to the south. Eight Mile Road (or Baseline Road) serves as the county line. Of the city's 2.06 square miles (5.34 km 2 ) in area and population of 5,970, 1.06 square miles (2.75 km 2 ) (51.4%) and 2,739 residences (45.9%) are within Wayne County.
