The fit and finish of these magazines is much higher, the quality of the aluminum or the heat treat seems much better as well. The quality of the ASC magazines spot welding on the spine and the front is also of much higher quality, and better done. The finish on the magazine itself is very even and crisp. The magazine drops free easily from ...

This thread is intended to be a guide and learning process about the evolution of the AR-15 Magazine. The resources from which I have gathered information include years of reading this forum, The Black Rifle 1, Vickers Guide AR-15 Volume 1, and A Collectors Guide To The Colt AR-15 SP1 Sporter Rifle.
Now, I don't want to argue on what magazine is "the best", but I do want to encourage discussion, experiences, debates on current factory Duramag AR15 magazines. I currently own 2 marked c-product, 3 marked 7.62x39 (for an AR15 PWS gun I want to build), and a od green ar15 30 rounder.
They are fairly new on the scene, so there isn't long-term data on them yet. The Mod 2 is simply a different grip style. I don't think it has any real modifications beyond aesthetic. The Thermold did not scratch the magazine wells and didn’t appear to show wear as quickly as USGIs. For example, I could easily scratch with my finger nail the surface of an unused (1970’s manufacture, still in the original box) USGI 20-round magazine, while the used Thermold retained it’s nice black finish.
