The floor exercise (English abbreviation FX) is the event performed on the floor, in both women's and men's artistic gymnastics (WAG and MAG). The same floor is used for WAG FX and MAG FX, but rules and scoring differ; most obviously, a WAG FX routine is synchronised to a piece of recorded dance music , whereas MAG FX has no musical accompaniment .

The women's floor event at the 2024 Summer Olympics was held on 28 July and 5 August 2024 at the Accor Arena (referred to as the Bercy Arena due to IOC sponsorship rules). [1] 76 gymnasts from 33 nations (of the 95 total gymnasts) competed on floor in the qualifying round.
Each of the 98 qualified gymnasts are eligible for the floor competition, but many gymnasts do not compete in each of the apparatus events. The COVID-19 pandemic delayed many of the events for qualifying for gymnastics. The 2018 and 2019 World Championships were completed on time, but many of the World Cup series events were delayed into 2021.
