While GPS is nice and actually helpful at times, there is this old-fashioned thing called Maps. Luckily I preexist GPS and have developed a pretty good sense of direction. While paper street maps have become rare, there is thing called Google Map, which I often consult before heading into new territory. I also have my Garmin.
So my new truck allows Toyota to read every bit of info from my truck in real time including my GPS location and speed. Now I have already turned off their gracious "complementary" safety connect/service connect but I am almost positive my truck's data can still be accessed by Toyota remotely if they desired.

Also, could it be a head unit malfunction, gps antenna malfunction, loose wire, bad fuse (possibly sending power to the gps antenna), etc. Also, I get Map DVD read errors from time to time, but I doubt this has anything to do with it not acquiring a gps signal.
