Molecular Biology of the Cell is a cellular and molecular biology textbook published by W.W. Norton & Co and currently authored by Bruce Alberts, Rebecca Heald, David Morgan, Martin Raff, Keith Roberts, and Peter Walter. The book was first published in 1983 by Garland Science and is now in its seventh edition.
Alberts has had a productive research career in the field of DNA replication and cell division. His textbook, Molecular Biology of the Cell, now in its seventh edition, is the standard cell biology textbook in most universities; the fourth edition is freely available from National Center for Biotechnology Information Bookshelf. Bruce Alberts (born 1938), American biochemist, former President of the United States National Academy of Sciences, known for studying the protein complexes involved in chromosome replication, and for the book Molecular Biology of the Cell; Robert Alberty (1921–2014), American physical biochemist, with many contributions to enzyme kinetics.
James Edwin Darnell Jr. (born September 9, 1930, Columbus, Mississippi) [5] is an American biologist who made significant contributions to RNA processing and cytokine signaling and is author of the cell biology textbook Molecular Cell Biology. In 2004, he was elected a foreign member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.
