Hamilton County Schools (or Hamilton County Department of Education) is the school district that serves Hamilton County, Tennessee, USA. After a 1995 referendum, the then-separate Chattanooga City Schools district was merged into the county district in 1997. [2] About 2,300 high school seniors graduated from the system in May 2011. [3]
The district consolidated three elementary schools into the new Hamilton County Elementary School, located at the high school site. Four of the five school board members agreed to the consolidation during an April 14, 2014 vote.
Central High School opened in September 1907 on Dodds Avenue in Chattanooga. [3] It was one of Chattanooga's first public high schools.
