Little is known about the origins of the Norman Hound, it has been said it was developed from St. Hubert Hounds and local hounds from Normandy. [1] The breed was introduced into England by the Normans in the 11th century after their conquest of the country, and it believed both the Bloodhound and Talbot descended from it.
The original breed club is the Club français du Basset Artésien Normand & du Chien d'Artois, and the breed is recognised by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) as breed number 34 in Group 6, Scenthounds. [4]
