Woodland is located in the northeastern corner of Barry County. This is a small agricultural town that is also a bedroom community to the Lansing and Grand Rapids areas. It also has its own village form of government and elementary school. Woodland was first settled in 1837 when Charles & Jonathon Galloway and Charles Haight moved here.
The East Ward School was constructed in 1876 from plans by Bay City architect Oliver Hidden. It was unusual for its size and its elaborate brickwork. Delton is located in southwestern Barry County. It is bordered to the north by Hope Township. To the west the CDP extends slightly into Prairieville Township, Cloverdale and Cedar Creek. State highway M-43 runs through the town center, leading northeast 14 miles (23 km) to Hastings and southwest 19 miles (31 km) to downtown Kalamazoo.
