Krishnaji Ganesh Phulambrikar (1898–1974), popularly known as Master Krishnarao, was a musical genius - an Indian vocalist, classical musician and composer of Hindustani music. [1] He was credited with the creation of three Hindustani ragas and several bandishes .
His other contributions include the Fisher–Rao theorem, Rao distance, and orthogonal arrays. He was the author of 15 books [11] and authored over 400 journal publications. Rao received 38 honorary doctoral degrees from universities in 19 countries around the world and numerous awards and medals for his contributions to statistics and science.
Rao obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in 1966 and Master's of Science degree in 1968 from Bangalore University. He received his Ph.D. in biochemistry from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore in 1973. Former IISc Director Govindarajan Padmanabhan was his doctoral advisor at the Department of Biochemistry.
