The Tiny C Compiler, TCC, tCc, or TinyCC is an x86, X86-64 and ARM processor C compiler initially written by Fabrice Bellard. It is designed to work for slower computers with little disk space (e.g. on rescue disks ).
Small-C is both a subset of the C programming language, suitable for resource-limited microcomputers and embedded systems, and an implementation of that subset.Originally valuable as an early compiler for microcomputer systems available during the late 1970s and early 1980s, the implementation has also been useful as an example simple enough for teaching purposes.
BCPL was designed so that small and simple compilers could be written for it; reputedly some compilers could be run in 16 kilobytes. Furthermore, the original compiler, itself written in BCPL, was easily portable. BCPL was thus a popular choice for bootstrapping a system.
Design: Design aspects are considered, such as types, syntax, semantics, and library usage to develop a language. [10] Consideration: Syntax, implementation, and other factors are considered. Languages like Python interpret code at runtime, whereas languages like C++ follow an approach of basing its compiler off of C's compiler. [11]
The project encompasses the LLVM intermediate representation (IR), the LLVM debugger, the LLVM implementation of the C++ Standard Library (with full support of C++11 and C++14 [30]), etc. LLVM is administered by the LLVM Foundation. Compiler engineer Tanya Lattner became its president in 2014 [31] and was in post as of March 2024. [32]
GNU Compiler Collection, formerly the GNU C Compiler. Originally authored by Richard Stallman in 1987, GCC is a major modern compiler which is used to compile many free software projects, notably Linux. LLVM, formerly known as the Low Level Virtual Machine; Small-C by Ron Cain and James E Hendrix
Originally the library was only compatible with two of the most standard conforming C++ compilers (CodeWarrior and Comeau C/C++): later efforts have made it usable with a wide array of compilers (including older Visual C++ 6.0, Borland C++ Builder 6.0, Clang and GCC). Compiler vendors used Loki as a compatibility benchmark, further increasing ...
A library of executable code has a well-defined interface by which the functionality is invoked. For example, in C, a library function is invoked via C's normal function call capability. The linker generates code to call a function via the library mechanism if the function is available from a library instead of from the program itself.
