The CDP is located along the northern shore of Indian Lake [3] and includes the neighborhood known as Island View. [4] The northern edge of the CDP follows Ohio State Route 235, the eastern edge follows Blackhawk Run, the southern edge is the shore of Indian Lake, and the western edge is the border of Indian Lake State Park.
Somewhat smaller than Lake Michigan, Lake Chippewa extended through most of the Michigan Basin, north to the Straits of Mackinac, where there was a narrow channel which conveyed the lake's outflow over the now submerged Mackinac Falls to Lake Stanley. Its shoreline ranged from 10–30 miles (16–48 km) out from the present day Lake Michigan shore.
The new Chippewa Lake Birding & Bridle Trail, which opened Thursday, offers bird watchers and horseback riders the chance to explore a grassland habitat and traverse a shallow stream.
