The book tells the story of a teddy bear named Corduroy who is displayed in a toy shop in a department store. One day, a young girl arrives at the store with her mother and spots the bear. She is eager to buy him, but her mother refuses to spend more money.
The teddy bear was invented in honor of President Theodore Roosevelt. It began when Roosevelt was on a bear hunting trip near Onward, Mississippi, on Nov. 14, 1902.
Morris Michtom (September 12, 1869 – July 21, 1938) [1] [2] was a Russian-born businessman and inventor who, with his wife Rose, also a Russian Jewish immigrant who lived in Brooklyn, came up with the idea for the teddy bear in 1902 [3] around the same time as Richard Steiff in Germany.
