The new library was opened to the public in 1964. It had 61,420-square-foot (5,706 m 2), with a 300,000 volume capacity and seating for 550 patrons; design was by the Riverside architectural firm of Moise, Harbach and Hewlett. [1] In October, 2009, the library's board of trustees reinitiated plans to replace the existing main library.
