Dutch (endonym: Nederlands [ˈneːdərlɑnts] ⓘ) is a West Germanic language of the Indo-European language family, spoken by about 25 million people as a first language [4] and 5 million as a second language and is the third most spoken Germanic language.
Dutch conjugation resembles that of other continental West Germanic languages such as (Standard) German and Low German, and also the other Germanic languages to a lesser degree. Dutch retains the two main types of verb inherited from Proto-Germanic : weak and strong .
Dutch is one of the official languages in all four of the constituent countries of the Kingdom, [5] however English and a Portuguese-based creole-language, called Papiamento, are the most spoken languages on the Dutch Caribbean. Classes are taught in English and are currently offered in two streams: Pre-primary education and Grades 1 to 6. The school also provides Dutch language lessons and French language lessons for students beginning in grades 5 and 6. [3] The school has plans to add a middle school and high school program for Grades 7 to 12 in future years. [4]
