On 30 November 1939 No. 20 (Training) Group reformed at Buntingsdale Hall, Market Drayton, in Shropshire, within RAF Training Command. A number of various Technical Training Schools and Recruits Receiving Centres, were initially within No. 20 (Training) Group. On 27 May 1940, No. 20 Group was transferred into RAF Technical Training Command.
Nearby at Styche Hall [38] is the birthplace of Robert Clive, first Baron Clive, "Clive of India", (1725–1774), part of whose schooling was in the Grammar School then in Market Drayton. The Georgian house, designed by Sir William Chambers , the architect of Somerset House , replaced the half-timbered house where Clive was born.

Styche belonged to the Clive family, and Robert Clive was born in the old timber-framed house in 1725. On his return from India in 1760, he decided to rebuild Styche Hall.
