Marathon des Sables, or MdS, (French for Marathon of the Sands) [1] is a seven-day, about 257 km (160 mi) [2] ultramarathon, which is approximately the distance of six regular marathons. The longest single stage (2009) was 91 km (57 mi) long (2023 : 90.1 km).
For the 2018, 2019 and 2020 editions, the Marathon starts in Arundel, Quebec, just south of Mont-Tremblant and ends in Lachute. In 2021 and 2022 the Canadian ski marathon (CSM) was held virtually, with anyone recording two consecutive cross country gps trails of 50 and 60 km earning an award.
