Malco Theatres, Inc. is a family owned and operated movie theater chain that has been in business for over one hundred years. [1] It has been led by four generations of the Lightman family. Malco Theatres features 34 theatre locations with over 345 screens in six states (Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri and Tennessee).
In 2013, the Malco was purchased by a private owner, Rick Williams, who maintained the Malco's relationship with the HSDFI. In 2016, Hot Springs’ Sentinel-Record reported that Blade was “going home” to the Malco Theatre. Blade invested in restoring and renovating the aging theater, ahosting its grand re-opening on December 8, 2017.
The front of the building remained a storefront with the top floor being an apartment. In the 1960's, Malco Theaters bought the property, but retained the name as the Bob Burn's Theater. It closed in 1974. In 1979 it was purchased by the City of Van Buren Community Development Agency and restored to the King Opera House.
Bluff City Pickleball is housed at the former Malco theater at 2809 Bartlett Blvd. at the Malco Plaza Shopping Center. The 27,000-square-foot theater opened in 1989 and closed in late 2022.
