Frost was born in Ferntree Gully on 4 April 1989 to Australian parents who were divorced in 1992 when Frost was three years old. Frost was raised mostly by her mother and her step-father as one of six children. Frost is the middle child, she has an older sister and four brothers, two younger and two older.

The church began as a church plant of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina. Steven Furtick and seven other families from Christ Covenant Church in Shelby, North Carolina, relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina, meeting in Providence High School. In 1983 the Reformed Presbyterian Church, Evangelical Synod (RPCES) merged with the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). A group of churches in the PCA's Georgia Presbytery later objected to the way the merged denomination made its decisions.
