In April 1998, the Board of Regents granted the school a charter to operate as an independent institution. On January 1, 2001, Regents College became Excelsior College. John Frederick Ebersole (April 4, 1944 – November 23, 2016) was an American educator, author, [1] columnist, [2] and president of Excelsior College. [3] He served as president from 2006 to 2016, succeeding C. Wayne Williams, the founding president of the college.
