When the lake gets over that point, gates from the spillway are opened, releasing water; 2005 and 2006 were dry years, sending the lake to a record low on December 12, 2006.

Cedar Creek, located in Lincoln County in south-central Kentucky, USA, is an 8-mile-long (13 km) [1] tributary to the Dix River. [2] Via the Dix, Kentucky and Ohio rivers, it is part of the Mississippi River watershed. In 2002, a section of Cedar Creek was impounded to form Cedar Creek Lake.
The lake's large earthen dam and smaller saddle dams are operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Cedar Bog State Nature Preserve is a fen left behind by the retreating glaciers of the Wisconsin glaciation about 12,000-18,000 years ago. A protected area of about 450 acres (180 ha) of fen remains from the original area of approximately 7,000 acres (28 km 2). Cedar Bog is located in Champaign County, Ohio, United States, near the city of Urbana.
