The Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA) is a specialized accrediting agency that accredits post-secondary English language training programs. CEA states that its purpose is to provide a systematic approach by which programs and institutions can demonstrate their compliance with accepted standards, pursue continuous improvement, and be recognized for doing so. Students major in one of seven areas: creative writing, instrumental music, visual arts, theater, dance, vocal music, and media, design, television & video (MDTV). Students may also minor after their freshman year as long as they meet the audition requirements. The school is located on South Broad Street, in the former Ridgway Library.
Pittsburgh Creative and Performing Arts 6–12 (CAPA) is a magnet school located in the Cultural District of Downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. CAPA is one of four 6th to 12th grade schools in the Pittsburgh Public Schools. It was formed from a merger between CAPA High School and Rogers CAPA Middle School.
The school is open to many including local students, auditioned students and students in the special education program. In 2010 the number of students attending the school was above 500. Since the CAPA program was started that number has risen to over 1,000. The school's motto is "Aspire the Heights". [4]
When Superintendent Mark Roosevelt announced his right-sizing plan on November 9, 2005, it included the relocation of Rogers CAPA to the Baxter Elementary building formerly occupied by CAPA High. Due to the negative response of the students, parents and faculty, this plan was dropped in the final right-sizing plan of February 28, 2006.
