This is a list of all the grand finals that were played to decide those premierships. Between 1912 and 1925, and again in 1937, the premiership was decided on a first-past-the-post basis, with a final only played if two teams finished with an equal amount of competition points. This happened in 1916, 1922, 1923 and 1924.

The NRL finals system replaced the McIntyre system which was used from 1999 to 2011. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] A similar system was previously used by the Australian Rugby League in the 1995 and 1996 seasons; however, there was no crossover in 1995, and in 1996 teams crossed over in Week 2, rather than Week 3.
Due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in New South Wales the grand final was played outside of Sydney for the first time in competition history, at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium. [1] The top eight teams from the 2021 NRL season qualified for the finals series. NRL finals series have been played under the current format since 2012.
