Kwaidan: Stories and Studies of Strange Things (怪談, Kaidan, also Kwaidan (archaic)), often shortened to Kwaidan ("ghost story"), is a 1904 book by Lafcadio Hearn that features several Japanese ghost stories and a brief non-fiction study on insects. Patrick Lafcadio Hearn was born on the Greek Ionian Island of Lefkada on 27 June 1850. [3] His mother was a Greek named Rosa Cassimati, a native of the Greek island of Kythira, [4] while his father, Charles Bush Hearn, a British Army medical officer, was of Irish and English descent, [4] [5] who was stationed in Lefkada during the British protectorate of the United States of the Ionian Islands.
