Monroe is a city and the county seat of Walton County, Georgia, United States. [5] It is located both one hour east of Atlanta via US 78 and GA 138 to I-20 and east of Hartsfield–Jackson International Airport and is one of the exurban cities in the Atlanta metropolitan area. Monroe Area High School is a public, four-year comprehensive high school for grades nine through twelve. The present campus was constructed in 2005, and includes a football stadium (the Purple Pit) with a nine-lane rubberized track, baseball and softball fields, tennis courts, and a practice field for football and soccer.
