The proper way to SBN a barrel is to do the pieces separately an torque and drill gas ports / dimples AFTER the SBN process. It takes more time and costs a bit more money, but it prevents what you see above. Also the index pin is only for indexing, it has nothing to do with securing the extension to the barrel.

PSA barrels are easy, you should be easily GTG in removal. Now on the other hand, BCM pre assembled uppers are a bitch. +1. I broke a pin off a USGI barrel nut wrench on the first attempt to get a BCM upper apart this week. I'm close to 200 lbs and had to put most of my weight on the end of a 1' wrench to get it to break free.

Its oriented so the top and the bottom surfaces are being clamped down on. Then the appropriate wrench or crow's foot on the end of a 2ft long breaker bar gets the barrel nut off. As far as advice, I say chalk that one up to experience. Go buy yourself a $50 stripped upper and move everything over from the broken one.

Thanks again! If your two piece rails fit over the tube then it should be no problem just removing the tube and using the existing barrel nut. You'll have to remove the muzzle device, tap out the pins on the sight base, remove it too, and just unscrew the tube and the "indexing nut" from the barrel nut.

SC, USA. Posted: 8/30/2022 9:29:33 PM EDT. [#3] The barrel is similar to an ar15 barrel except there are some relief cuts for some clearances unique to the jakl. The main difference is the barrel extension. It is VERY different from an AR15 and 100 percent unique to the JAKL. Hopefully that helps.

I've got a Noveske 16" Recce w/VIS I am trying to remove the barrel on. After an hour of swearing and chewing the hell out of (and now ruining) my first VLTOR wrench, I figured I'd ask for help (yes, I'm stubborn). I used a DPMS Tiger Claw and a 2x4 in a Vise and applied a hell of a lot of torque, and this barrel nut won't budge.

It took so much torque that the index pin on the barrel pushed through about 1/8" into the side of the index slot on the upper. Basically destroyed the upper receiver. ETA sheared the index pin off the barrel as well. If you go this route, I would try a heat gun on the nut first.

Heat could do the trick, but don't get too generous with the torch. If that doesn't work, splitting the nut is the next step. Carefully cutting thru the nut with a dremel or other grinding tool, and then retry the wrench. If you have cut enough of the nut, it will crack open and spread enough to come loose.
