  2. 6mm ARC vs 6.5 Grendel - Long Range Hunting Forum

The Grendel case class is suited for bullets up to 120gr. 6mm tops out at 108gr IIRC, where 6.5mm 150gr is about the top. I really like hunting deer and hogs with a 6.5 Grendel but if I wanted to go long for steel 6mm would be my choice. I dont care too much for deer hunting with anything lighter than 6.5mm.

  3. 6mm arc , 6.5 grendel or 6.8 spc - AR15.COM

Grendel Steel was a 25 cent blasting option; which is a big deal. The Steel isn't half bad either - they use a long-range bullet profile and I've taken it out to pretty extended distances. Not every Grendel loves it, but mine gets 2 MOA level performance; which is pretty great, all things considered. Also, I consider Grendel the most general ...

My choice is the Grendel. Have taken caribou, deer, mountain goat up to 200yrds. Ammo was available and I now have plenty of hunting ammo stocked up. Cheap ammo still available. No experience with the ARC but on paper looks like the best for long range paper and steel. Trading diameter for downrange velocity….. All 3 are pretty light for moose.

Finally, relevant to the OP: I've not seen any MV (or load data yet) for the 6mm ARC other than some factory ammo info maybe. The Grendel will support 123gr ELD-M for sure (Hdy Black), but I think the max bullet weight for any available 6mm bullet will be 115gr.

The 6mm version is superior in my opinion. I have both. The 6mm does 2700 with 105s with AR Comp on a 20" barrel. My old 18" 6.5 barrel would only do 2580 with 107 TMKs and 2460 with 123s. Best load was 130 Bergers at 2390. Even adding 50ish FPS for the 2" longer barrel, the 6mm has about 200+ more FPS than the 6.5 with similar BC bullets.

Elk and moose in ribs at 400 is a real thing, deer to 658 and antelope at 752 recorded from Grendel 123’s, the 7.62 could never get close to these capabilities, it’s a different level below the Grendel and arc.

not bad, I had an early 22" sporter cut down to 18.5", slabbed/fluted the action bolt -3.0 oz, Jefferson hinged bottom (same weight as the factory bottom garbage/mag), and did the stocky's carbon which is a pretty sad cheap carbon with a porous finish, bendy forend, it really cheapens the whole carbon fibre game imo, the stock came in at 18 oz (advertised at 17, maybe that's varmint contour ...

Hornady lists Grendel @ 1028lbs for 400 Yards, & ARC @ 1038lbs for 400 Yards. Grendel gets the win for availability & ARC for high BC bullet capability. Frank Galli doesn't seem to find fault with the Valkyrie. 85 Berger, 6.9 Mils to 1000 yards, 7mph gun @ 600 yards. ( Believe the Target #38)

The ARC seems to be knocking on the heels of a BR. It will be interesting if they chamber this in micro-action bolt carbines like the Grendel has been. It would seem to make a dandy handgun round as well. I would expect the 6mm to be a bit more popular than the 6.5 Grendel.....in this capacity round.....at least for many purposes.
