Port Arthur was a city in Northern Ontario, Canada, located on Lake Superior. In January 1970, it amalgamated with Fort William and the townships of Neebing and McIntyre to form the city of Thunder Bay. Port Arthur had been the district seat of Thunder Bay District.

Augustus Hooper, like his brother Edmund J. G. Hooper, was born in Devon and arrived in Canada West (now called Ontario) in 1843. Augustus represented the region in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada, the precursor to the House of Commons of Canada, from 1861-3. [4]
Rankin surveyed the line north of Arthur before the 1837 Upper Canada Rebellion broke out in Toronto. In 1839, John McDonald was hired to resurvey the line. He completed the survey between Guelph and Fergus that year, and to Arthur by October 1842. [17] Construction of the line between Arthur and Sydenham began at both ends in 1843. [18]

Port Arthur and Kenora was a federal electoral district represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1917 to 1925. It was located in the province of Ontario . This riding was created in 1914 from parts of Thunder Bay and Rainy River riding.
