Port Arthur was a city in Northern Ontario, Canada, located on Lake Superior. In January 1970, it amalgamated with Fort William and the townships of Neebing and McIntyre to form the city of Thunder Bay. Port Arthur had been the district seat of Thunder Bay District.

Augustus Hooper, like his brother Edmund J. G. Hooper, was born in Devon and arrived in Canada West (now called Ontario) in 1843. Augustus represented the region in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada, the precursor to the House of Commons of Canada, from 1861-3. [4]
The Gore of Camden is a rectangular section of land in the north and northwest area of the township. The Camden Gore contains Concessions 1 to 14 running eastward and Lots 1 to 10 running northward. [2] The Gore was variously administered by Lambton and Kent counties as the population changed and road improvements were made. [3]
Fort William was a city in Ontario, Canada, located on the Kaministiquia River, at its entrance to Lake Superior. It amalgamated with Port Arthur and the townships of Neebing and McIntyre to form the city of Thunder Bay in January 1970. Since then, it has been the largest city in Northwestern Ontario.

Rankin surveyed the line north of Arthur before the 1837 Upper Canada Rebellion broke out in Toronto. In 1839, John McDonald was hired to resurvey the line. He completed the survey between Guelph and Fergus that year, and to Arthur by October 1842. [17] Construction of the line between Arthur and Sydenham began at both ends in 1843. [18]
