Port Arthur was a city in Northern Ontario, Canada, located on Lake Superior. In January 1970, it amalgamated with Fort William and the townships of Neebing and McIntyre to form the city of Thunder Bay. Port Arthur had been the district seat of Thunder Bay District.

Augustus Hooper, like his brother Edmund J. G. Hooper, was born in Devon and arrived in Canada West (now called Ontario) in 1843. Augustus represented the region in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada, the precursor to the House of Commons of Canada, from 1861-3. [4]
The Winnipeg-Port Arthur line was completed on December 30, 1901, with the last spike being driven just east of Atikokan station by Ontario's Commissioner of Crown Lands, Elihu Davis. Meanwhile, Mackenzie and Mann expanded their prairie branch line operations to feed the connection to Port Arthur.
Rankin surveyed the line north of Arthur before the 1837 Upper Canada Rebellion broke out in Toronto. In 1839, John McDonald was hired to resurvey the line. He completed the survey between Guelph and Fergus that year, and to Arthur by October 1842. [17] Construction of the line between Arthur and Sydenham began at both ends in 1843. [18]
Kent was a federal electoral district (riding) represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1867 to 1904, 1917 to 1968, and 1979 to 1997. It was located in the province of Ontario and was created by the British North America Act of 1867 .
Port Arthur was an electoral riding in Ontario, Canada. In 1902 the riding was created as Port Arthur and Rainy River. Six years later it was split into two ridings: Port Arthur and Rainy River. In 1996, it was merged with the riding of Lake Nipigon to form Thunder Bay—Superior North.
