Furnace Grove stands on the rural eastern outskirts of Bennington, on the north side of Vermont Route 9. The property includes 102 acres (41 ha) sandwiched between a branch of the Walloomsac River to the south and the Green Mountains to the north, and includes three surviving residential structures, a number of agricultural outbuildings, and the industrial remains of its iron foundry past.

Vermont Route 9 (VT 9) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Vermont.The highway runs 46.957 miles (75.570 km) from the New York state line in Bennington, where it continues west as New York State Route 7 (NY 7), to the New Hampshire state line at the Connecticut River in Brattleboro, where the highway continues as New Hampshire Route 9 (NH 9).
The river then flows west toward Bennington and passes the downtown area to the north. For many years this section was intermittent due to the water having been diverted to power mills in town (ca. 1810). [5] This divergence gave the name Walloomsac to a portion of the river flowing through town on the present course of South Stream.

In 2011, Jim Barnes, purchased the ski area and the adjacent golf course for $6.5 million. Barnes had purchased the nearby Hermitage Inn in 2007. Barnes rebranded the club, The Hermitage Club at Haystack Mountain, and the golf course, The Hermitage Golf Course. The Hermitage Club first opened for the 2012–2013 ski season. [44]
The bridge was probably built in 1840 by Benjamin Sears, who was from a family of well-known bridge builders in the region. The family is also credited with construction of the Paper Mill Village Bridge (1889), downriver a short way from this bridge; the Burt Henry Covered Bridge is also nearby, the three bridges all on a 2-mile (3.2 km) stretch of the river.
The Henry Covered Bridge is located on northwestern Bennington, southwest of the village of North Bennington and the campus of Bennington College. It carries River Road across the westward-flowing Walloomsac River, about 0.5 miles (0.80 km) west of its junction with Vermont Route 67A. The historic Henry House stands just south of the bridge.
