The Kiss (German: Der Kuss) is an oil-on-canvas painting with added gold leaf, silver and platinum by the Austrian Symbolist painter Gustav Klimt. [3] It was painted at some point in 1907 and 1908, during the height of what scholars call his "Golden Period". [4]

The Natchez is an oil-on-canvas painting executed ca. 1834–35 by the French Romantic artist Eugène Delacroix. It depicts a Native American couple with their newborn child. The painting was inspired by a passage in Chateaubriand's Atala, which describes the family as the last members of the Natchez tribe after a massacre committed by the French.
The Dead Lovers depicts the young couple as putrefying cadavers, infested by snakes, worms, a toad, and insects such as flies and dragonflies. In spite of this, the two "living dead" still appear quite robust, and still display signs of mutual affection, such as the bride's hand on the bridegroom's shoulder. [ 1 ]
