January 13, 1963: A Delta Air Lines Douglas DC-7, registration N4875C, crashed into a parked USAF Fairchild C-123 Provider on an unfamiliar taxiway at night. At the time the DC-7 was carrying 5 occupants on board on during a ferrying/positioning flight and was taxiing for takeoff at then Memphis Municipal Airport when it struck the USAF airplane.
Delta Flight 954, operating the Convair, experienced miscommunication with air traffic control and were crossing a runway in poor visibility when North Central Airlines Flight 575, operating the DC-9, were in their takeoff roll on the same runway. The DC-9 attempted to fly over the Convair but struck it and then crash landed back on the runway.
