Shari Lewis (born Phyllis Naomi Hurwitz; [citation needed] January 17, 1933 – August 2, 1998) was a Peabody-winning American ventriloquist, puppeteer, children's entertainer, television show host, dancer, singer, actress, author, and symphony conductor. [1]
The show also starred Ronald Radd, who played Mr. Goodfellow and Clive Russell, who made his television debut on the series. Fred Gwynne also made appearances as Lamb Chop's doctor. Lamb Chop made her debut on Captain Kangaroo in 1956. The show was awarded a Peabody Award in 1961. Despite warm reviews, the show was cancelled after three seasons.
This marked Lewis' return to television after about 15 years (following the BBC version of The Shari Lewis Show in 1975). Lamb Chop's Play-Along was shot in Canada, first in Burnaby, British Columbia and then at the CBC Studios in Vancouver, British Columbia. [2] The series honored Lewis' father, college professor Abraham Hurwitz, who died in 1981.
