Ovid is a village in Seneca County, New York, United States. The population was 602 at the 2010 census. The town was named by a clerk interested in the classics (see Ovid). The Village of Ovid is within the Town of Ovid, but a small portion is in the Town of Romulus, and is southeast of Geneva, New York.

Seneca County Courthouse Complex at Ovid, also known as the "Three Bears", is a historic courthouse complex located at Ovid in Seneca County, New York.The 1845 courthouse, known as "Papa Bear", is a 2 + 1 ⁄ 2-story, three-by-four-bay, Neoclassical brick structure with a monumental frame pedimented portico supported by four Doric order columns and topped by a cupola.

1899 The provisional charter was granted to the Ovid Free Library on December 21, 1899 by the Regents of University of the State of New York. The library was first located in the Ovid Gazette office located in the home of James French. 1905 The Ovid Free Library was moved to the Seneca County Clerk’s Office, known as Mama Bear, in Ovid.
At the time of the 2010 United States Census, [1] the state of New York had 555 villages. [2] Since then, one village was created ( Mastic Beach in Suffolk County ) and 25 villages were dissolved [ 3 ] [ 4 ] [ 5 ] (including Mastic Beach, after only seven years of incorporation [ 6 ] [ 7 ] ).
The State Agricultural College of Ovid opened its doors in 1860 on the site of a former farm. The college building was located at the top of the hill east of Willard Landing on Seneca Lake. When the Civil War erupted in 1861 the entire student body enlisted and in 1862 the college closed leaving New York State holding a $40,000 mortgage.
