The district of Richmond North Centre was created in the 2015 redistribution from parts of Richmond Centre and Richmond East and first contested in the 2017 election. The riding adopted its current name and had minor boundary changes from the 2024 election , which implemented the results of the 2021 redistribution .
A lawyer by profession, Brodie was elected to City Council in 1996 and again in 1999, as part of the centre-right Richmond Non-Partisan Association (RNPA). [2] After the resignation of mayor Greg Halsey-Brandt, Brodie was elected mayor in a special by-election on 29 October 2001. He left his RNPA party, and now serves as an independent.
