Emma Mendenhall (March 15, 1873 – March 25, 1964) was an American landscape, portrait and still life painter. A lifelong resident of Cincinnati, where she taught at the Oakhurst School, Mendenhall also traveled widely, incorporating scenes of Europe and North America into her work.
Alexander Helwig Wyant (January 11, 1836 – November 29, 1892) was an American landscape painter. His early works belonged to the Hudson River School, with its direct pastoral narrative, but evolved into the more moody and shadowy Tonalism. After a stroke which paralysed his right arm, he taught himself to paint with his left.
Inspired by famous American landscape artists like Thomas Cole, Duncanson created renowned landscape paintings and is considered a second generation Hudson River School artist. [1] [2] Duncanson spent the majority of his career in Cincinnati, Ohio and helped develop the Ohio River Valley landscape tradition. [2]
Sprin was born in Waterbury, Connecticut and grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio. She graduated cum laude from Radcliffe College in 1969, where she studied Art History. She received her master's degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania in 1974. [4]
Wilbur G. Adam (July 23, 1898 – March 23, 1973) was an American painter and illustrator who divided his career between Cincinnati and Chicago. [1] He was known for his portraiture and landscapes of western United States.
Sara Sax (1870 – 1949) was an American decorative artist and designer, known for her work in ceramics, and scenic landscape paintings on vellum. [1] She was one of the staff at the Rookwood Pottery Company of Cincinnati. [2] Sax was acclaimed for her hand painted floral and peacock feather motifs on ceramics, and her mastery of glazing. [2]
