D&W Fresh Market was founded in 1943 by Roy Woodrick and Sid DeVries. The first store was opened in Grandville, Michigan as an IGA retail grocery store. [1] It was one of the first grocery stores in Grand Rapids to sell USDA Choice Beef exclusively.
The area already had three hotels by 1875. The village of Petoskey was incorporated in 1879; at that time a number of brick commercial structures began to be constructed in the downtown area. [2] Construction continued through the turn of the century, and construction of small scale commercial structures continued into the 1940s.
The village's amusement park, Ramona Park, opened in 1897, a creation of the Grand Rapids Street Railway Company in order to increase use of their services. [7] The park included amusement rides, games, concession stands, and two large pavilions where activities from theater to roller skating were hosted.
